  • Hopes & Dreams Week

Fri 11 Oct 2019 Caroline Witton

We had our first ‘Hopes & dreams’ week this week and the children have been full of exciting stories about the work they have done.

The children have had some interesting discussions, answering some BIG questions about their own hopes and dreams and their hopes and dreams for the world. Most of their work is displayed in the classrooms and the children’s hopes and dreams for the world are hung on the tree outside my office. You are more than welcome to pop in after school and have a look.

The children have made dream catchers, decorations to show our values, dream bottles and many other things across the week. I’m sure the children will share this with you.

We also had 'hobby afternoon' on Thursday. The children had the opportunity to show their hobby and explain to each class everything about their hobby. We were very proud of the children’s ability to eloquently articulate information about their hobby. There was also some great questioning from children who wanted to know even more!

The week ended with Mrs Allen’s pop-up church in the hall. Sitting comfortably on bean bags and cushions in a circle, with eyes closed, children were encouraged to reflect quietly on the work they had done for hopes and dreams so far. They then chose a hope or dream for themselves, their family or the world and drew or wrote their idea on a cloud and fastened it to a balloon. Standing in a circle they were invited to join in with a prayer before releasing their balloons to the ceiling. The balloons were not released outside due to the possible environmental impact. The children sat and listened to a song about light, hopes and dreams whilst reflecting on their experiences.
