  • Macmillan Afternoon Tea

    Wed 29 Sep 2021 Iola Seaton-Reid

Following on from our lovely harvest festival service we invited parents and carers into school for our Macmillan Afternoon Tea led by Chequers House.

The event was very well attended with a fabulous selection of delicious cakes and biscuits kindly baked by our families and Robins' Class.

£160.48 was raised for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Thank you as always for your generosity.

  • Harvest Festival 2021

    Wed 29 Sep 2021 Iola Seaton-Reid

We were delighted to be able to visit St Mary's Church for our harvest celebrations after such a long time.  The church looked beautiful and the display of fresh and non-perishable produce looked very inviting.  Reverend Kaboleh led a lovely service to our pupils and staff.

Thank you to all our parents and carers for your generosity once again.  Our collection of produce will be donated to the more needy in our community via Bertie the Bus.

  • Oakley School STEM Fair

Mon 27 Sep 2021 Serena Courtney

Last Friday saw the long awaited Oakley STEM fair return. This has been on hold throughout the pandemic, but the sun shone and our exhibitors were excited to meet us at last! We were so fortunate to have the support of so many people to demonstrate the wide variety of applications of STEM subjects. In the morning, representatives from RAF Brize Norton and our very own Mr Lainchbury, ran activities and challenges for each class in turn. The children had to work as teams, complete challenges and think about flight.

They all stayed with us for the afternoon of activities and were joined by representatives from Greatmoor, Brookes, the Churchill, Larkmead Vets, Imperial college, Baxter pharmaceutical, Guide Dogs and the Selmes family with some mammals for us to meet. The newly appointed science ambassadors from Year 4 and 5 helped to set up and worked hard all afternoon to provide activities for everyone to take part in. These included film canister rockets, paper spinners, bubble investigations, building challenges using only spaghetti, marshmallows and jelly babies and some maths puzzles. The afternoon wouldn’t have been complete without tasty refreshments from FOS. Thank you to everyone who contributed or attended to make the day a success for the children to learn about a wide variety of stem activities, helping them to learn about careers and to experiment and see how their learning helps them.

  • OakFest'21

    Tue 07 Sep 2021 Iola Seaton-Reid

OakFest'21 attracted the biggest crowd ever.  Festival goers enjoyed over 10 hours of fantastic live music from our many talented and generous musicians and artists.  The OakFeast barbecue excelled itself with a wonderful menu of delicious food whilst the bar did a roaring trade offering many local beers.

Specials thanks must go to our wonderful sponsors who make the day possible and to everyone who was involved in any way, even just coming along.  We are hopeful of a record breaking fundraising total this year.  The final amount will be announced soon.
