We have studied animals including humans, looking at skeletons and wondering what it would be like without a skeleton. The children have carried out their own investigations about whether people with longer arms or legs can run faster or throw further.
Our second topic has been about materials where we have investigated how waterproof different materials are and observed what different things are made from, considering the properties the material has that make it suitable for the purpose. Rocks and soils was our final topic, which we have begun with enthusiasm, especially after pretending chocolate bars were rocks to get the children observing closely and describing. We will continue this topic into the first part of next term, considering how the pyramids may have been built and if there are similarities with the methods used in building Stonehenge, getting the children to extend their thinking and make links between their learning in different areas. We will be carrying out investigations on rocks and soils we have collected.
