This term, Robins have been learning about place value, addition, subtraction and multiplication. The work on place value has been applied to calculations with the children able to explain why we need to exchange between columns. This helps them to be able to solve problems and reason about maths. Year 2 have been working on adding and subtracting any 2 digit numbers whilst Year 3 have been working with 3 digit numbers and learned how to apply their understanding to use more formal written methods. Multiplication has been all about equal groups and trying to recall facts. Knowledge has been applied to money working about amounts and giving change.
We have also been taking part in the NCETM Mastering Number programme this term. This involves short fast paced sessions each day to increase children's understanding of connections between numbers and their rapid recall of key facts.
