In art we have studied the work of Andy Warhol. We began by looking at some of his work and the children gave their opinions about the art. We also had an interesting discussion about whether it was art and what can be referred to as art.
Our new big books and the children's sketch books have been used to show the development and skills of the learning taking place. Notes made during the discussions are included in our big books. The children have been using their sketch books to experiment with the ideas discussed, so they had a go at creating their own piece of art work in the style of Andy Warhol, using pastels. We looked at colour mixing and experimented with colours they wanted to use. Then came learning how to draw a cylinder. We had several attempts at sketching the shape, me included. Building up the final piece was completed a step at a time, looking at the background, the tins, painting the tins whilst applying all the skills learned. The final pieces were evaluated by the children and their peers.
